I often get the question “can you find your style roots based on your essences?”. I totally see why people ask this question because the styles at the end can look really similar to each other. However, there is a completely different process in how you get to each one.
Your style roots is based of what you love + your personality (and these two things tend to overlap - for example, if you are someone who aspires to be sweet, gentle and cute, you are most likely to be drawn to clothes which are also sweet, gentle and cute), whereas your essences is based off your image. My perspective on essences is most aligned with truth is beauty - I see it as your top three essences which are based off your facial features.
You can use your style roots and/or essences in conjunction with your body matrix type. You can use your body matrix type to dictate the silhouettes you wear, and your style roots/essences to guide your details such as fabrics, patterns, adornments etc. You can either take elements from both your style roots and essences, or Venn diagram until you have a select few things which become the iconic elements of your personal style.
In this post, I’m going to break down how I translate style roots to essences in my head, and the subtle differences between them.
