Comparing makeup looks for your face type
I think one the most important element of creating a signature makeup look is taking into account your essence blend i.e. the ‘vibe’ or feel your facial features create. I’m going to break down some makeup looks I love from each of the essences
Dramatic
Dramatic essence is bold, powerful and intimidating. The look on the right feels much more harmonious on Keira than the left which feels a little too clean and neat. Keira does have some elements of classic essence, but her dramatic is so much stronger which means the emphasis on the eyes rather than the eyes AND lips is much more fitting for her yin/yang imbalance. The smokiness of the eye creates a feline impression, with dark liner on the waterline and darkness all around the eye adding to the intensity of the look further complementing her dramatic essence
Natural
Full disclosure, there is a colour element at play here as well as an essence one as Jennifer Garner is warm toned and the look on the left is cool, but its not the only factor to consider here! The look on the left is too striking on the eye for someone with a natural, down-to-earth feel. Similarly, the lip is a little shiny and yin-leaning for her yang dominant features. The look on the right has warm, natural colours on the eye, with a slightly enhanced version of her lip colour which works well for her natural essence.
Gamine
Don’t get me wrong, I actually don’t think the look on the left is bad - Emma stone is a really beautiful woman and she looks stunning; however, I feel that the playful, quirky element of her appearance overwhelms the subtle makeup look. The look on the right makes her appear much more striking
Classic
With the look on the left, Naomi Watts feels a little overwhelmed by the heaviness on her eye. Classic look best with equal intensity between eyes and lips, so by increasing the depth on the lips and reducing on the eyes, the look on the right feels more balanced
Ingenue
Lana Condor has very sweet, innocent facial features. As a result, the heavier look on the left feels a little forced. It can be so tempting as an ingenue to try to look more mature by wearing looks borrowed from other essences; however, as you can see here the softer, sparkly eye look feels more harmonious and she shines a lot brighter
Romantic
The look on the left is a quirky, playful look which conflict with the more sensual, womanly elements of Drew’s essence blend. The look on the right with a slightly sparkly eye with a soft red lip are much more complementary for her (and the look on the left is too cool for her - worth noting!)
Ethereal
Gwyneth Paltrow looks great on the left; however, it feels like she’s trying too hard with the red lip. Because she has soft, long, otherworldly features, the very ‘modern’ red lip feels out of place against her. The look on the right with the softer colours, the touch of shimmer feels much better for her low contrast features

In this video I break down the different arguments for whether Taylor is or is not ethereal, and discovered I am pretty torn
🎨 Pinterest colour season collages | I have had so much fun putting together some colour season collages using the pinterest collage feature - I think this is a great way to snapshot a season and get a feel for it which can honestly be half the story
📸 New round of photo donations | I am working on a new product which shows different body matrix types and I would love to have some of you represented. I know it’s important to see real bodies that you can relate to, and the best way is to get donations from my audience! If you would be willing to donate some images, you can do so here (and get 50% off any of my booklets when you do!)
