6 Places for Genuinely Good Style Inspiration
1. Truth is Beauty
This absolutely incredible blog is without a doubt the best resource for learning how to combine your essence. Rachel has curated some amazing pinterest boards for her system which focuses on combining just 1-3 essences. Truth is beauty has been such a staple blog for me in this entire process, and her boards have influenced my outfits so many times!
2. David Zyla’s Pinterest Boards
David Zyla’s Color Your Style has a really fun perspective on style where you find unexpected colours in your features for specific situations in your life, as part of this he has developed several style archetypes specifically based on your colour season. His pinterest boards where he breaks down each of the archetypes are absolutely stunning. Having a read of the book also helps you get in the mindset of course!
3. Strictly Kibbe
Like many members, and fellow past members, of Strictly Kibbe, I have conflicted feelings on the Facebook group which I’m sure I can get into another time (I probably won’t because I hate conflict lol) but there is no doubt about it that Kibbe’s resources are some of the most inspiring on the internet. Whether it’s his selection of old Hollywood movies, his style exercises or just seeing how everyone else in the group interpret’s his instructions, it is a really exciting group to be a part of. Four season freedom is also an underrated one of the SK groups!
4. The Trinny Takeover Show
When I worked as a maid for centre parks in the summer a few years ago, I would sneakily carry my phone around with me, prop it up while I made beds and watch Trinny Woodall’s videos on repeat. I absolutely recommend her episodes of closet confessions where she breaks down different elements of your wardrobe and shows how to get out of your comfort zone, but I wanted to focus on closet confessions because I think trinny does makeover shows unlike any one else. I recently had the pleasure of meeting Laura from season 5 of the trinny takeover show at an event and she was without a doubt the most interesting, down-to-earth and just lovely person there so I wanted to share her episode specifically!
5. Your favourite movies
Anything you watch on repeat, especially if you like the vibe or the feel of the film/show, you should absolutely start paying attention to what everyone is wearing. Even better, you should think about how your films and tv shows use clothing to create their character, for someone like luna lovegood, almost half of how we understand her comes through how she dresses as she doesn’t exactly have a lot of dialogue. Costume shows you how you should perceive a character before they even speak. Just search one of your favourite films on pinterest and see what you love
Some of my favourites for this kind of exercise:
pretty woman
little women (greta gerwig)
gilmore girls
dirty dancing
Harry Potter
the big bang theory
friends
cruel intentions
the marvellous mrs maisel
6. The concept wardrobe
If I want a little refresher on a certain colour season, kibbe body type or essence the concept wardrobe is always my first port of call. They have amazing pages laying out the basics of each style type, with celebrity examples and specific style recommendations
