I would love your opinion on round outerwear. It seems like most jackets/coats are meant to keep out the weather and therefore are made of thick stiff fabrics. Since I got your book I’ve been on the hunt for good round jackets but I can’t really find anything that is draped or soft except cardigans/knitwear.

Is there a particular style that you would recommend?

I have a wool princess-cut coat with a waist belt, and I feel like it works really well with roundness. It basically fits like a dress! :)

Well, that finally clears it up: I'm round!

I'm sharing a few thoughts here in case they help anyone:

I like tailored garments and find I can wear stiffer fabrics if they're cut right. Princess cuts and darts are ideal for following the body's shape in shirts or vests (I love vests!). I also like to create a bit of contrast with V-necks. I think they look better on me than round ones. I'm somewhere between medium and wide, meaning my shoulders are quite athletic, and complete roundness in necklines and shapes would go against that, IMO.

What do you think?

Thank you so much! This is very validating for a ‘round’ after a lifetime of hearing comments like ‘you don’t *have* to always show off your waist’, ‘girls who wear form-fitting clothes are insecure and just trying to get attention’, and ‘but the empire waist uniform is flattering on *all* women’. All that for simply wearing what looks and feels the most comfortable and natural on me, and now I know why! ❤️
